A work you want to live with.
You do not need a list of rules to start looking at art. A few practical questions can help you look with more confidence.

Start with the work you keep returning to. It might be a colour, a subject, or something you cannot explain yet. Save it. Look at it again on another day. Notice whether your attention changes.
Then look at the details. How large is it? What is it made from? Is it a unique work or one of an edition? A small image on a screen can hide a rough surface or flatten a deep colour. Ask for close-up images and a view of the work in a room.
If you are thinking of a particular wall, measure it. Cut a piece of paper to the size of the work and live with it for a few days. Our room preview can help you imagine the placement, but it cannot reproduce the exact colour or texture of a physical object.
A conversation with the gallery should make the practical details clear. Ask about condition, framing, delivery, and the documents that come with the work. Take the time you need. There is no prize for deciding quickly.
